Haywood Community Band

Haywood County, North Carolina  Established 2002

The Haywood Community Band is named for the county where we reside in North Carolina. Weekly rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from March through October from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Grace Episcopal Church, 394 Haywood Street, Waynesville.

A new program of music is performed on the third Sunday of the month, May through October, in the open-air Maggie Community Pavilion in Maggie Valley, North Carolina beginning at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Members of the band also ride a float in the Fourth of July parade at Lake Junaluska, North Carolina, and give an Independence Day concert on the courthouse lawn in Waynesville at 2 p.m. Additional concerts are on the last Sunday of August at the shoreline of Lake Junaluska and an end-of-season program in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, Waynesville.

The Maggie Valley Concerts are sponsored by the Maggie Valley Civic Association. The band is supported in part by grants from the Haywood County Arts Council and the North Carolina Arts Council; a state agency. The Haywood Community Band is a member of the National Association of Concert Bands.

Musicians are invited to attend one of the rehearsals and consider joining the band. Currently the band averages between 40-45 players. The instrumentation is that of a typical concert band...woodwinds, brass and percussion. Members of the Haywood Community Band also perform in additional ensembles – swing bands, a Dixieland band and a chamber wind group.

Musicians interested in performing with the community band may call band president Rhonda Kram at Stone Cottage Music at 828-456-4880.
