The band gave two scholarships this year, our regular college scholarship as well as a Tom Cifani Memorial Scholarship for $1000.

The Haywood Schools Foundation has announced the 2020 college scholarship recipients.  A short article in The Mountaineer reported that 130 scholarships totaling $227,750 had been awarded.  Another article on the same page highlighted the scholarships received by Cole Ammons, a percussionist and drum set player from Tuscola H.S,.  Among the $11,000 in scholarships that Cole received was the Haywood Community Band $1000 scholarship.  

Coleman Ammons:  Has participated in band for seven years.  He has been a section leader for two years and was selected for the All-State Honors Band on percussion and All-State Jazz Band for drum set.  He participates with his church's praise band where he also plays guitar and bass guitar.  He will be attending the University of Tennessee.  In his scholarship application he wrote, "I've always wanted to be a musician.  Without financial help I will never be able to receive the education I need for my goals."

The Tom Cifani Memorial Scholarship was awarded to David Rolland, a trumpet player from Pisgah H.S. 

David Rolland:  Has participated in band for 7 years.  He was high brass captain for two years and participated in Jazz Band.  He is in the National Honors Society and Student Council at Pisgah.  He is also an Eagle Scout and a member of a bluegrass band.  He is setting out to be a professional musician.  "I love music and being able to play my trumpet and banjo to please others with the music I make."
